Life before the internet

I tried to explain my to 12 year old the other day what life was like before the internet. Before email. Before facebook. And those horrible, dreary, God-forsaken days before Google.

Remember trying to write a school report and having to rely on such archaic things as encyclopedias, newspaper articles and the library? And a typewriter and a pencil.

All of this was brought on by a new dictionary I found at an estate sale which he has spent hours (well, okay several minutes) pouring over it in total fascination. Looking up words in alphabetical order, while the 15 lb book sat on his lap. Later we took turns looking up random words and guessing the definitions.

Who knew a dictionary could be so fun?
